How much does a website cost in Sri Lanka?
, 5 min read, by the RAVNSYS team
Ask five developers for a website price and you can get five very different numbers. That is not because someone is cheating you. It is usually because each of them is quoting for a different thing. Here is what actually changes the price, so you can compare quotes properly.
The five things that decide the price
- How many pages you need. A single page that explains who you are and how to reach you is far less work than a site with a separate page for every service.
- Custom design or a template. A template is quicker and cheaper; a custom design fits your business and is easier to make fast and easy to find on Google.
- Features. A contact form is simple. Online bookings, payments, logins or a stock list need a database and more testing, so they are priced separately.
- Content. Someone has to write the words and take or choose the photos. If you provide them, the price goes down.
- Running costs. Your domain name and hosting are paid every year, and someone needs to keep the site updated and secure.
What our prices look like
We publish our starting prices so you can plan. A single-page website starts from LKR 30,000 and a business website with up to five pages from LKR 50,000. Both include foundation SEO: proper page titles, structured data, a sitemap and fast, mobile-friendly pages. Hosting is agreed separately, because a simple site costs very little to run and a site with bookings or payments needs more behind it. Apps and booking systems get a fixed quote after a short call.
What should always be included
- A layout that works well on phones, since most of your customers will visit on one.
- HTTPS (the padlock in the address bar). Browsers warn visitors away from sites without it.
- Basic SEO, so Google understands what you do and where you are.
- A clear way to contact you: a WhatsApp button, a phone number or a form.
- Your domain registered in your name, not the developer's.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Who will own the domain and the website files when it is finished?
- What is the yearly cost after the first year, for the domain, hosting and updates?
- How many rounds of changes are included?
- Will the site be built for my business, or is it a template with my logo on it?
- If I want to move to another developer later, can I take everything with me?
A cheap site that you cannot move, edit or find on Google often costs more in the end than a fair price paid once. Whoever you choose, get the answers to these questions in writing.
